PIER 70
With 65 acres on San Francisco's spectacular bayfront, a location just a few blocks east of Homes on Esprit Park and within a half-mile of UCSF's second campus, and with service by the new T Third Light Rail line linking it to the rest of the city transit network, Pier 70 is soon to be the next up-and-coming development area in the City. The pier is currently one of the largest ship repair yards on the west coast. The Port of San Francisco who is preparing a master plan to develop the Pier 70 area administers it. The new plan will create public recreation space and recreational water uses and will improve waterfront access while maintaining the pier's present maritime uses and preserving the area's extraordinary historical structures.
BIKEWAY & GREENBELT PROJECT
The new Mission Creek Bikeway and Greenbelt project will soon turn the unused railway corridor running along the east side of the Potrero Hill into a green bike and pedestrian pathway. The bikeway will create open space for recreation and a parkway that will connect the Potrero Hill district to the San Francisco Bay Trail, the waterfront walking and bike path that rings the bay.
The pathway will begin at 16th and Harrison streets, wind around the nose of Potrero Hill, cross 7th Street and the Caltrain tracks, continue along the south side of the Mission Creek Channel, then connect with Giants stadium, and, of course, the waterfront. A leg of the bikeway will extend from the 8th and Townsend traffic circle along Townsend, connecting with the Caltrain station, where a bike station is also being planned.
